Maritime piracy in the gulf of guinea

The resurgence of maritime piracy in the Gulf of Guinea (GG) has drastically increased and fundamentally destroyed the socio-economic security architecture of the sub region. Because of the activities of maritime pirates in the GG, the future of security of investments, energy, commercial ventures, revenue and environmental resources within the sub region is under threat. It is against this background that this study examines the causes, role of actors, trajectories and implications of maritime piracy in the GG. The study relies on the theory of alienation to explore the dynamics of maritime piracy. Use of secondary data supports findings of the study. The study contends that maritime piracy is at its zenith in the sub region especially within the Nigerian waters. This.is attributed to the deliberate alienation of the citizens by the federal government.
