John Worthing lives a double life — one as a well-respected member of the community in Hertfordshire and the other as “Ernest”, a fictitious brother he invented in order to lead a debauched life in London with his friend and confidant Algernon Moncrieff. Things get complicated when love interferes. John wants to marry Algernon’s cousin, Gwendolen Fairfax. But the terrible lady Bracknell questions his intentions since he was found in a handbag in Victoria Station and has no real social status by birth… Returning to his home in the countryside, he finds out that Algernon has also arrived under the identity of his double “Ernest” to win Cecily Cardew’s heart… Seems a little “over the top”?
